Well hello my beauties!
For as long as I can remember, I have been in love with The Wizard of Oz. I’ve watched it more times than I can count, and can pretty much say every line of the film with it. It’s my favourite film, and I love things about it as well. I have an unhealthy obsession with Wicked, and unlike a lot of people, I loved Oz: The Great and Powerful.
Last night, I decided to put my two loves together. Wizard of Oz and makeup! I was uhming and ahing how to bring something like that into makeup. I considered themed looks. Maybe a set. But I had originally intended, before deciding on WIzard of Oz, that I either wanted to do a detailed lip or eye art piece. I wasn’t feeling creating a whole look, and was wanting to work on my detailing. So more uhming and ahing. Finally, it came to me. Only the most iconic scene in the entire film. It was a big ask but I thought eh, if it goes horribly wrong, nobody has to know. However, here’s the result.
No matter what I tried, I could not get a good shot on my camera. Without flash it was too shadowy, with it it was washed out. So unfortunately, all I have is iPhone shots. But better than nothing. It didn’t turn out too bad. The green of the Emerald City was a bit more vibrant in real life but otherwise it’s not too bad.
So obviously, it’s the iconic scene where they’re walking towards Emerald City (added the photo into the grid, just in case). I used a bit of artistic license. The lid up to the crease is meant to be the poppy field. I also decided to frame either side with trees from the forest behind the shot, as if you’re looking down onto the path. I added a rainbow as well. Because I could.
I really enjoyed creating this. It was tricky. Used a nail art brush for a lot of it. There were a few mistakes that were corrected a long the way but honestly I was very pleased. Especially as it was coming up to 3am by the time I finished.
